CECAFA Kagame Cup: Gor Mahia has been drawn in a group of death

The 21-time Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF PL) champions, Gor Mahia, have been drawn into a tough group for the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Kagame Cup.

Kogalo has landed in Group B, which includes football giants such as the 2023/24 Zambian Super League champions Red Arrows FC, 10-time Sudani Premier League winners Al Hilal FC, and Djibouti Telcom FC.

Gor Mahia last lifted the trophy back in 1985 after they defeated their perennial Premier League rivals, AFC Leopards, 2-0 to secure their third Kagame Cup.

The newly appointed Gor Mahia tactician, Leonardo Neiva, has his work cut out for him as he is expected to help the Kenyan football giants break their 40-year dry spell in the competition.

Neighbours Tanzania, who have produced two teams, are set to host the tournament, which is slated to commence on Tuesday, July 9, and conclude on Sunday, July 21.

K’Ogalo will use the tournament as a build-up to the CAF Champions League qualifiers that are scheduled to start in August.
