Celebrated sports journalist Sean Cardovillis’ body to be cremated

The body of sports journalist Sean Cardovillis is scheduled to be cremated, at a private family ceremony in Nairobi.

According to his family, the ceremony will be done on Thursday, September 14, 2023.

The family further disclosed that a memorial service will be held in Nairobi on September 22 beginning at 10 am at Consolata Shrine.

On Saturday morning, the sports commentator lost his life at his residence in Westlands.

According to reports, he collapsed on the staircase just outside his home, and as of now, the cause of his passing remains undetermined.

A cleaner found him dead on the stairway leading to his fourth-floor apartment, according to the police and the deceased’s family.

He passed away shortly after 6 a.m. as he was leaving for a bike ride, according to preliminary police findings.

Police after reviewing surveillance videos at the residence said the security guard who was on duty left the compound at about 6:05 a.m. and did not find the body.

The police believe that this was the time Cardovillis also left the house closed the door and collapsed at the staircase. 

The Seychellois journalist had been living alone on Rhapta Road in Westlands, He returned to the capital FM after 18 years.

His family has expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and love they have received from the public during this difficult time.

However family also emphasized the importance of the public’s understanding and consideration of their need for privacy.

“Following the demise of our beloved Sean, we, the family, are humbled by the outpouring of love, words of encouragement, and willingness to assist with Sean’s arrangements,”

“Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy.” the family stated in a statement

President William Ruto is among the national leaders who eulogized Sean Cardovillis.

“Saddened by the passing of a brilliant and outstanding sports broadcaster Sean Cardovillis.

“He was a cool, insightful and gifted journalist who played an integral role on our radio stations.

“We will miss his clear and concise voice, passion and upbeat personality.

“Our prayers are with his family and media fraternity at this painful time. Rest in Peace, Sean. The president wrote.
