The 2024 Edition of Kalasha International Film and TV awards is scheduled to take place at Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) From 27th to 30th March.
Kenya Film Commission (KFC) Chief Executive Officer Kenya Timothy Owase said that this year’s awards will be different from the previous editions.
Speaking in an interview on Spice FM, Owase stated that the event will create a platform for filmmakers to showcase their work and engage in opportunities.
“We’ll be creating different activities for filmmakers to network, connect, trade, and engage in core production. It’s an avenue for filmmakers to do the real business of film,” Owase said.
“The first two days we will have the Kalasha market and festival then on the final day we will have the awards,” the CEO said.
“I am inviting everyone to come and invite all other filmmakers to participate in the event to see to it that we all succeed.”
Owase stated that they are looking forward to hosting over 1000 people.
The awards feature 39 categories, including 37 competitive ones covering various aspects of filmmaking, from scriptwriting to directing and sound.
“There will be a cash reward during the gala night. I will not however quote the figure,” he said.
Owase highlighted a stiff competition due to high quality productions. He said other countries will be able to showcase what they love and a stakeholder forum will allow local producers and film-makers to engage their counterparts from other countries.
“We expect that during the Kalasha market, you will have an opportunity to cut deals and get new partners from other countries and create an avenue for storytelling,” Owase said.
Special categories like ‘Kituo Halisi’ and the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ will not undergo public voting but will be awarded based on specific criteria.
Additionally, exhibitions will feature businesses offering their products and services, with conferences hosting key speakers discussing topics such as AI’s impact on the industry.
