National NewsNews

Unknown number of people are feared dead after getting trapped in a road accident along Thika Road on Saturday morning.

The accident, which occurred at the GSU flyover, involved two trucks and a Toyota Ractis. The heavy rains on Saturday reportedly complicated the situation.

An unknown number of people are reportedly trapped even as responders visit the site to begin rescue operations.

Motorists using the busy highway to get to Nairobi were frustrated after getting stuck in traffic for over one hour.

Most were forced to seek alternative routes as emergency responders took time before rushing to the accident scene.

Shattered glasses, metallic parts filled the road as hundreds of onlookers flocked the site hoping to assist the victims.

“There are at least 3 accidents along Thika Road this morning. It has taken close to an hour and 30 mins to get to Muthaiga from Kahawa Sukari. It’s insane with traffic,” Duncan Mudali said.

This comes a day after two boda boda riders lost their lives in Nyalenda, Kisumu County after they were knocked down by a Subaru driver.

Business came to a standstill for the better part of Thursday in Kisumu after protests erupted.

The crowd, mostly comprised of boda boda riders, dragged the vehicle to the roadside before torching it.

Police officers in the vicinity were forced to rush to the scene in efforts to avoid escalation of the protests.

The officers were however overpowered by protesters who had turned out in large numbers.

County fire fighters arrived at the scene to quell the fire and disperse the residents who blocked the road.

The Subaru driver survived with injuries and was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital for first aid.

Bodies of the late boda boda riders, who died moments after the accident, were transferred to the hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem.
