Chaotic scenes dominated the early morning session of the public participation in Murangá on the special motion for the proposed removal from office by impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
It took the intervention of anti-riot police to restore order after a section of irate residents resorted to violence when a vehicle allegedly with already filled public views templates, manned by two men, was discovered within the Murang’a University of Technology vicinity.
Window panes of the Toyata X-trail were smashed with both men being shielded by police who were forced to lob a teargas canister to disperse the angry mob.
It remains unclear as to how the alleged marked public views templates made their way to the vehicle and their final destination.
“This process has been rigged. It is unacceptable,” claimed one the resident.
Parliament clerks alerted of the development assured residents that the only forms that will be taken back to the National Assembly are the ones in possession of the assembly’s employees.
“We would wish to assure residents of Murang’a that your views matter and only those templates in our possessions are the ones that will be taken back to Nairobi. Exercise restrain,” pleaded one of the clerks.
After an hour of tense moments, order was restored with more hawk eyed officers deployed to maintain order and security to the end of the process.
