Enzo Fernandez scored Chelsea’s third goal as they beat Aston Villa in their FA Cup fourth-round replay. The Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino lauded Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Villa as one of the best performance of their season.
Conor Gallagher set Chelsea on their way after 11 minutes with a composed right-foot finish at the Holte End, Nicolas Jackson swiftly adding a second with a neat header from Malo Gusto’s cross.
Villa’s hopes of a comeback were extinguished nine minutes after the interval when Enzo Fernandez curled a magnificent 25-yard free-kick into the top corner, away from the reach of Villa goalkeeper and fellow Argentina World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez.
Moussa Diaby pulled one back for Villa in stoppage time but it could not even be considered consolation for the home side and Chelsea now face Leeds United at Stamford Bridge in the fifth round.
Conor Gallagher was delighted to get off the mark with his first Chelsea goal of the season.
“It was nice to get my goal and with it being my first of the season, it was really important to me. I think it helped us gain confidence in the game which helped us win, so I’m really happy.”
On his part Mauricio Pochettino was delighted with his team’s performance in the FA Cup fourth round replay victory at Aston Villa and believes it shows what this side can achieve if they approach every game with the same attitude and freedom.
‘I think it was one of the best performances of the season, we played well against a very difficult team. Aston Villa is doing a fantastic job and are opposition who are in the top four and are the second best team playing at home.
