Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he is in the market for new players, despite having brought in a substantial 12 first-team players in the last transfer window.

Despite these significant additions, Chelsea has yet to witness the desired improvements on the field, with Pochettino’s team currently languishing in 14th place after six matches into the new season.

“I am working to identify what we need for January on the transfer market. I am on it,” Pochettino said.

Securing a new striker is believed to be one of Chelsea’s primary objectives for the upcoming January transfer window.

Potential options being considered for this role include Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, and Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez.

Pochettino anticipates a more active involvement in discussions pertaining to new signings and is eager to commence the recruitment process as soon as possible to address the team’s performance issues.

“When the transfer window was closed I said I need to be more involved now in all the decisions,” said the former Tottenham head coach.

Pochettino: I beat Mykhailo Mudryk in crossbar challenges

Pochettino disclosed his efforts to boost the confidence of winger Mykhailo Mudryk, aiming to see him become the player who prompted Chelsea to swoop in and thwart his move to Arsenal last January.

Pochettino revealed that he chose the crossbar challenge as a method to achieve this objective.

The Argentine humourously recounted his frequent victories over the Ukrainian winger in the challenge, to the point where Mudryk declined further challenges from his coach.

“He told me today, ‘No, I don’t want to play with you anymore because you always win at this game.’ So, I responded by saying, ‘Yes, because I had the belief, and the balance between belief and quality, which I understand very well at 50 years old,’” Mauricio Pochettino quipped.

Pochettino went on to reveal that after he excused himself from the crossbar challenge, the young winger emerged victorious for the first time, a breakthrough that could have a lasting impact on his confidence levels.
