Christmas has come early for 10 community conservation group under Tulivu Foundation, an initiative of Tulivu Water Company, after the groups were issued with a cheques of KSh250, 000 for their efforts in conservation of environment through tree planting.
Speaking while issuing the said groups with the cheque, an event which was also to celebrate 1st anniversary of the Tulivu Foundation at Maara Girls High School in South Imenti, Meru County, Tulivu Foundation Director Francis Mworia said the 10 community environmental conservation groups, apart from mitigating effects of climate change by planting tree seedlings, the foundation wants members to have an earning by selling the trees when mature and also by putting up beekeeping projects.
He said the foundation will be giving out 100 free tree seedlings every year to the members to plant in their farms and earn dividends every year for the trees planted.
On education, Mworia said the foundation has launched education scholarships for 27 pupils and students from the community in 3 schools the foundation is supporting.
He said the full education scholarship covers; uniforms, school items, food that will be used in these schools and mentorship programs. Noting that the scholarship will also cater for education all the way to university and colleges.
On the sports, the Tulivu Foundation director noted that the foundation has already launched Tulivu FC football academy which is aimed at nurturing young football talents from the age of 7 years to 18 years.
He said the academy will admit 100 young footballers and the trainings will be based at Kinoru stadium.
Mworia urged parents especially from Meru county to avail their children whenever clinics are called for before the end of this year, so that the children can be enrolled in the academy.
He noted that the foundation is planning on expanding to other neighbouring counties of Tharaka Nithi and Isiolo counties.
Dr. John Amanja, one of Tulivu Foundation board members said, the foundation was playing a good role in addressing effects of climate change by protecting the environment.
He said the foundation was also touching lives of people in the society as it’s focused in a rural set-up where it’s (foundation) trying to uplift or empower the community.
Dr. Amanja called on other companies, organizations or even individuals to come out and join hands in whatever area they are in and assist the communities by uplifting the livelihood of the society.
