Kenyan media personality Angela Wanjiru Muriuki alias Ciru Muriuki has for the first time spoken since her fiancé Charles Ouda passed away.
Ciru spoke at a ceremony held at the Kenya National Theatre Courtyard on Wednesday, February 14 in honour of the late Charlie.
In a moving tribute, Ciru recalled meeting Charlie for the first time.
“The first time I ever saw Charlie on stage was several years ago while he was still at St Mary’s. And I thought that he was so fine.
“If anyone would have told me that 20 years later this luminous man would have asked to marry me I would have laughed you off the room,” she narrated.
They would later connect after she returned from New York but it took a while before their friendship turned into official courtship.
“When we reconnected after I came back from New York we began some friendships that later had some benefits. After a while, it was clear that there was something between us that was completely undeniable,” Ciru added.
The media personality described love from Charlie as something she had never experienced even at the age of 42.
“Am almost 42 years and I have never been loved like that. It was about the grand gestures. It was about the comfort. Then it was absolute safety. he saw me, It was such a big beautiful love.”
Their beautiful love story culminated into a marriage proposal in September last year, and Ciru holds fond memories of that special day.
“The night he asked me to marry him was the most beautiful night of my life,” she added.
Charlie’s untimely demise however came about on February 3, although cause of death is yet to be revealed, even as investigators take up the case.
The legendary actor will be cremated today (Thursday) at Kariokor Crematorium in Nairobi.
