In a significant development for Nairobi City’s healthcare sector, Governor Johnson Sakaja has confirmed the permanent employment status of doctors previously under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).
This announcement follows a crucial meeting with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) National Secretary General and CEO, Davji Atella, marking a major step forward in recognizing the vital contributions of medical professionals in Nairobi.
During the meeting, it was agreed that all 43 unconfirmed doctors, comprising 35 Medical Officers and 8 specialists, would be transitioned to permanent and pensionable (PnP) terms.
“These doctors are set to pick up their confirmation letters on August 12, 2024,” Governor Sakaja confirmed.
This decision ensures that all 115 medical officers and 18 specialists previously under NMS will now have permanent employment status.
In addition to this, Governor Sakaja announced plans for new hirings, including 35 Medical Officers, 31 pharmacists, 20 dentists, and 8 specialists, further bolstering Nairobi’s healthcare workforce.
The KMPDU expressed its gratitude to Governor Sakaja for his cooperation and commitment. “We sincerely thank Governor Sakaja for recognizing the vital contributions of our medical professionals,” said a KMPDU spokesperson.
This move is expected to enhance the stability and morale of the healthcare workforce, ultimately leading to better healthcare services for Nairobi residents.
