Class eight pupil among killed suspected robbers

A class eight pupil was among three suspected robbers who were killed on Thursday, October 12 by angry residents at Kamukuywa market in Bungoma County.

The three suspects were killed after a robbery incident at the market amid the rise of insecurity incidences in the area. 

Other three suspects who survived during the ambush are nursing serious injuries at a private hospital in Kimilili.

As result, local leaders including Emmanuel Wasike, one of the Nyumba Kumi leaders in the area urged the Bungoma County commissioner Thomas Sankei to ensure security of the residents.

They also called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to intervene in addressing the rising insecurity incidents in the area.

Additionally, they also warned that they would take the law in their hands if the police fail to arrest robbery suspects at the market. 

“We are tired of reporting thieves to the police station every day without getting assistance from the relevant authorities,” said Bernard Wanjala, a resident.

Wanjala added that thieves were stealing commodities from shops as they sell them to other unsuspecting retailers at the same market.

Another eyewitness, Pauline Wafula who spoke to the media at the scene of the incident noted that one of the three suspects who were killed was a class eight pupil at Nasioyi Primary School.

“It’s very sad that parents try their best to ensure their children are in class, without knowing that the young pupils were engaging in criminal activities,” she said.

On the other hand, human rights activist Bwonya urged  County police commander Francis Kooli to ensure security of the residents. 

Bwonya warned residents against killing suspects, urging them to always report to police for the law to take its course. 

He also called on families of the victims to remain calm, while assuring them that police have launched investigations into the matter.
