Co-op Bank teller charged with stealing KSh2.5 million

A teller at the Cooperative Bank was on Thursday, July 12 charged at the Milimani Law Courts for stealing KSh2.5 million at the financial institution.

Prosecution Counsel Judy Koech told the court that the accused person, namely Joseph Musembi Mutuku, committed the offence on diverse dates between 1st May 2022 and 30th December, 2023 at the Co-operative Bank of Kenya Maasai Mall Branch in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado county.

Court documents say that being an employee of the said bank, Mutuku stole the amount which came to his possession by virtue of employment.

Mr. Mutuku denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe.

The magistrate directed the accused person to be released on a bond of KSh500,000 with two surety of similar amount or an alternative cash bail of KSh300,000, with two contact persons.

The case is scheduled for mention on 25th July 2024.
