“Co-parenting is draining!” Jovial tells ladies to be cautious when getting children

Celebrated artist Jovial (real name Juliet Mariam Ayub) has advised ladies to only get children when they are ready, instead of relying on their partner to provide.

She shared her sentiments on Instagram while discussing challenges of co-parenting which has become common practice.

“Co-parenting has got to be one of the most draining things on earth! In most cases one party is usually bitter, wakidhani they are getting back at you when the real victim is the child!” she began.

Jovial noted that while body changes was considered a draining aspect when it comes to pregnancy, she has realized it is the mental aspect of it that really matters.

“When you tell your close people you are having a baby wanakutishia na story za body changes ujitayarishe kumbe you need to prepare yourself mentally and psychologically. (When you tell your close people you are having a baby they threaten you with stories of body changes so that you can prepare, when actually you need to prepare yourself mentally and psychologically)”

She advised ladies to instead choose to get a child only when they themselves are ready.

“Have that child when you are ready to have that child!” Jovial added.

Kenyan entrepreneur cum philanthropist Esther Akoth, alias Akothee, shared her co-parenting journey on Mother’s Day while offering advice to a young couple embroiled in a child custodial case.

“Co-parenting will turn you into a mental patient if not treated with maturity…

“I am 43, and my baby daddy still makes me cry. My son is 15, my other son just turned 11. Up until yesterday, I still burst into tears. This co-parenting needs maturity, patience, and understanding, not thorax,” the mother of five shared.

Akothee noted that women bear the brunt of raising children regardless of whether the man is financially stable.

“Men are not emotionally attached to children. I don’t say they don’t love their children, but the pain you feel while fighting for the children is double that of a man. If I were you, I would try to make peace.”
