Coach sentenced to 20 years in prison for defiling 12-year-old boy

A middle-aged man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for defiling a 12-year-old boy in 2016.

Kisumu Principal Magistrate Maureen Nyigei handed the suspect the sentence after prosecution convinced the court that he was culpable.

The victim, while testifying, narrated to the court how the accused person lured him into his house by asking him to take a ball. While at the house, the victim says he showed him a first aid book and told him to bend as shown in the book, then went ahead and defiled him.

Magistrate Nyigei, in the sentencing, noted that the accused was in a position of trust and authority as relates to the complainant whom he was coaching and therefore more was expected from him.

She added that it was unfortunate that the accused person has been coaching children and he has abused that position by the commission of the offence herein.

Prosecution, through Linda Nzioka, presented a total of 8 witnesses whose testimonies according to the court proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
