The National Assembly Committee on Appointments has approved the nomination of Dorcas Oduor as Kenya’s first female Attorney General.
At the same time, the Committee approved the nomination of Beatrice Askul for East African Committee Affairs and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary.
This follows their vetting on Friday August 9th 2024.
Dorcas Oduor is set to take over from former AG, Justin Muturi.
The two now await the approval by the National Assembly before their names are forwarded to president William Ruto for appointment.
“This house approves of the following persons, Beatrice Askul Moe as the cabinet secretary of East African Committee Affairs and Regional Development and Dorcas Oduor as the Attorney General of the republic of Kenya,” read part of the committee’s report.
Their approval comes a few days after 19 other newly appointed cabinet secretaries were sworn in at State House, Nairobi.
Dorcas Oduor and Beatrice Askul’s names were in the last batch of CS to be nominated.
Meanwhile one CS nominee, Ms. Stella Lang’at as Gender cabinet secretary was not approved for the appointment.
According to the committee on appointment, Ms. Stella Soi’s nomination was rejected because she failed to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of key issues on her docket during the vetting process.
This comes after the President dismissed the entire cabinet in July, with an aim of creating a broad-based government which would better his vision for the country.
Following the reports at State House on Friday, he mentioned that his government is enhancing plans outlined in the Bottom-up Economic Agenda.
