Committee rejects Gender Cabinet Secretary nominee Stella Soi

The National Assembly Committee on Appointments has rejected the appointment of Stella Soi Lang’at as the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage.

Announcing the decision on the floor of the House on Wednesday, August 7 noon, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah did not give any reasons why the committee rejected Soi’s appointment.

Ichung’wah, however, informed the House that the committee had approved all the other 19 Cabinet nominees vetted in a four-day exercise last week.

Cabinet nominees approved

Cabinet nominees who have been approved include; Prof. Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Dr Debra Mulongo Barasa (Health), Alice Wahome (Lands), Julius Migos Ogamba (Education), Roselinda Soipan Tuya (Defence), Andrew Muhia (Agriculture), Aden Duale (Environment), Eric Muriithi Muga (Water), Davis Chirchir (Transport), and Dr Margaret Nyambura Ndung’u (ICT).

Others are; John Mbadi (Treasury), Salim Mvurya (Trade), Rebecca Miano (Tourism), James Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum), Kipchumba Murkomen (Sports), Hassan Joho (Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs), Alfred Mutua (Labour), Wycliffe Oparanya (MSMEs), and Justin Muturi (Public Service).

Parliament will now determine whether to save Soi or side with the committee’s recommendation of rejecting her.
