A lady accused of impersonating an Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officer has been arrested.
The suspect, Ezely Omwoyo, has reportedly been conning unsuspecting government officials, contractors, suppliers, and even the public millions of shillings by posing as a leading Anti-Corruption Lawyer and Investigator at EACC.
Confirming her arrest, EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi revealed the suspect tells the victims she can help them evade arrest and terminate graft cases against them by getting ahold of their criminal files.
Apparently, Ezely Omwoyo has been asking for millions, claiming she must share the bribe with her bosses at EACC and counterparts at the ODPP office.
She was apprehended on Thursday, May 2 and detained at EACC Integrity Centre Police Station until Friday when she was arraigned.
The lady’s scheme was uncovered by a victim who almost fell into her trap on April 30, 2024.
She is said to have organised a meeting with a senior government official where she introduced herself as Jacinta from EACC.
The suspect urged the government officer to meet her at Nairobi Public Service Club Coffee Shop, with a promise of holding another meeting at her alleged office at Integrity Centre on May 2.
The civil servant, aware that he had no corruption case against him, smelled a rat and reported the lady at the anti-corruption agency.
Investigations kicked off leading to her arrest at Nairobi Public Service Club Coffee Shop where she was reportedly soliciting a bribe.
The Spokesperson said she would be charged with impersonating an EACC investigator contrary to Section 34(1) as read with Section 34(2) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
