Police in Tindiret, Nandi County, are investigating an incident that saw a police officer assaulted by members of the public on Thursday, June 7.
It is reported that Sergeant Sammy Maritim — officer in charge of Kapsigilai Patrol Base — had gone to Kibingong trading centre at around 1:45 AM to allegedly look for his girlfriend (Akinyi) whom he stays with but had not returned home.
“He reportedly went on shouting and calling the lady causing disturbance at the centre irritating the residents whom ended up beating him up,” a report filed at Potopoto Police Station reads in part.
Officer Maritim sustained blunt force injuries on the head as a result of the beating he got from the residents.
“Officers rushed to the scene and found him unconscious while bleeding profusely from the injury,” the report adds.
He was rushed to Chepsese dispensary where he was treated but later referred to Nandi Hills Sub-County Hospital where he was admitted in a stable condition.
