Ever wondered where to dispose off your household junk and make some coins from it? Let me put you on Corido Marketplace.

Why Corido marketplace you might ask? I talked to Kevin Rakama who is the founder and name generator.

“I was thinking of a place where people would do business in an informal way. I figured people can just meet in corridors and do business,” said Mr Rakama.

How does it work?

How the website works, you post your products and after vetting to ensure the items are nearly new and in good working condition.

The team at Corridor Marketplace then approves it to go public.

“Initially, we did not have this vetting process. We had people posting everything including drugs,” he said retaining a hearty laughter.

Shylock inspired Corido Marketplace formation

The Corido Marketplace was founded in 2018 after Rakama, a telecommunication engineer, searched for employment in vain.

“I then decided to develop websites for clients, during that period I had an emergency and was looking for KSh 13,000.”

“I took my carpet worth KSh 30,000 to the schylock but they offered me KSh 3,000. That is what inspired me.”

“I said I would come back and streamline the industry and after pondering, Corido Marketplace was born,” narrated Rakama.

Returning customers and referrals

Five years later, Corido Marketplace prides itself in having 85% returning customers who also refer new customers.

“Our buyers are assured that our products are not faulty.”

“Can you imagine someone saving for a fridge for months and then getting a faulty one? We are very careful.”

With experience comes the skill of pricing. Corido Marketplace advises their clients on how much to charge for a particular product.

Product pricing

Moreover, buyers and sellers from the platform know they cannot been taken advantage of.

“I pride myself in bringing in a secure service to the market,” quips Rakama.

“I am a middle man or broker anyone should be willing to try out either as a seller or buyer.”

The next time you want to dispose off your items or buy a slightly used product that is in good shape at a cheaper price, Corido Marketplace is your boy.
