Migori: Suspected bhang traffickers arrested after high-speed police chase

Two people were arrested in Awendo, Migori county, yesterday for allegedly trafficking in narcotics.
Benard Momanyi, 38, and Thomas Macheine Kuria, 27, were arrested after a high-speed chase. According to the National Police Service, the two were driving in a Toyota Premio registration number KCK 174D, and defied orders to stop at a roadblock.
"In his desperate efforts to escape, he (Momanyi, driver) dangerously run over police spikes deflating both the front and rear wheels of his car and continued to speed on flat tyres," says NPS. "Police officers on duty at the police check gave a chase and caught up with the suspects, fortunately saving them from further endangering their lives."
Several sacks of bhang (cannabis sativa) were stuffed at the back seat of the car. The car and the drugs exhibit were detained as exhibit.
"We laud the Awendo community and the area police for the partnership that led to the successful arrest of the notorious drug traffickers," said NPS.
"Drug and substance abuse has ruined the lives of many young people some of who have turned to crime and irresponsible behaviour to fund their illegal indulgence. Let's all join efforts in ridding our communities of drug and substance abuse," added the police.
The suspects will be arraigned in court on Monday.
