Man jailed for life for defiling his 10-year-old daughter

A 45-year-old farmer from Elgeyo Marakwet county will spend the rest of his life in prison after being convicted of defiling his daughter, 10.

Eldoret Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Menya ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court heard that the man had quarrelled with his wife, who left him to leave with her parents [minor's grandparents]. It was then that he defiled his daughter on the marital bed. The incident happened between October, 2018 and February, 2019.

During the trial, the man had claimed he was not the biological father of the minor. But a DNA test conducted at the Eldoret Referral Hospital proved otherwise.

The man pleaded for mercy, telling the court that he was a bread winner for his five other children.
