[PHOTOS] Angry residents set church ablaze in dispute over land

Angry residents of Tiekunu village in Limuru Constituency, Kiambu County, on Thursday morning set ablaze a church which is at the centre of a land dispute.

They also pulled down a perimeter wall that was surrounding the Glare Center Church. 

Ndeiya sub-County Police Commander Roseline Mnyolmo says they have arrested two suspects.

There is an ongoing case at Limuru Law Courts over the ownership of the land. The case pits the community against the church leaders and has been going on for seven months now. 

Mnyolmo says the two suspects will assist police with investigations on who instigated the destruction of private property.

Speaking to TV47 Digital, the police boss cautioned land owners to follow the right procedures in settling out disputes.She also urged prospective land owners to do due diligence before making any land purchases.

Kagotho Njihia the caretaker of the church said the dispute has resulted in great loss. "Hopefully we will slowly rebuild. I urge the court to hasten the case so that this matter can be resolved once and for all."
