John Victor Ndwiga is a boy who dreams big. Not even his poor background can sway his desire to become a neurosurgeon when he completes his education.
His dreams have been buoyed by the fact that there are not so many neurosurgeons in the country.
So, for the 14-year-old boy currently in Form One at Nkubu Boys High School, his mission is to be a neurosurgeon not just to save lives, but to also teach other willing candidates to join the industry but are barred by "the level of poverty in most of the villages where sharp minds are born."
Teachers of the young boy describe him as a very inquisitive student who always 'bother' the science teachers with incessant questions.
Mercy Chomba is a Biology and Chemistry teacher at Kiburia Girls High School in Kirinyaga County. Chomba tells TV47 Reporter Kimotho Karanu that the boy keeps her busy during the school holidays.
"When schools are closed, Ndwiga is always coming to me for consultations and I am forced to teach him more advanced topics depending on the questions he asks," she says.
Edwin Mugendi, the father of the boy with big dreams works as taxi driver in Embu town. He also doubles up as an MC to get extra income to cater for his family's needs.
He describes his boy as an obedient child.
