KANU's Yassin Muchelule clinches Mumias North MCA seat

Yassin Waluchio Muchelule of Kenya African National Union (KANU) Party is the MCA-elect of Mumias North Ward in Kakamega County.
Muchelule won the seat after garnering 1,525 votes in a by-election that was marred by incredibly low voter turn-out.
The independence party candidate trounced the incumbent MCA Rashid Rocky Omwendo of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party by only 23 votes. Omwendo got 1,502 votes in the mini-poll held on Thursday, December 8.
Other candidates in the race performed dismally; Mohammed Abdi Zakayo of Amani National Congress (ANC) got 166 votes, Yassin Ali Shikolio of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) garnered 79 votes, while DAP-Kenya's Hassan Washiali Hamis managed only 12 votes.

According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), a total of 3,308 votes were cast in the by-election, representing a 36 percent voter turnout.
