"Impossible for boys undergoing traditional Kikuyu circumcision rites to become gay!" - elders say

The Kikuyu Council Elders (Kiama Kia Ma) now say they are not in any competition with the church in as far as circumcision of boys is concerned. The elders are insisting that the traditional Kikuyu circumcision rite of passage must be followed.
Kiama Kia Ma Chairperson in Kirinyaga County Mwangi Ndung'u says that with the increasing Westernisation and negative influence, there is need to instill traditions to save the boy child.
Ndung'u says that most of the members of the elders council are leaders in various churches but have taken it upon themselves to instill traditions and guide the society to prosperity.
He says that it is very hard for a boy who has gone through the traditional circumcision rite to become gay or engage in ear-piercing among other negative behaviours associated with the Western world.
He further noted that the cut is not only symbolic but the boys must be taught how to become men and how to handle life challenges.
He was speaking in Wang'uru town during the graduation ceremony for over 100 boys who have gone through the Kikuyu traditional circumcision rights.
