Cancer patient dies by suicide at Nyeri County Referral Hospital

Police are investigating an incident where a patient at the Nyeri County Referral Hospital died by suicide.
Reports indicate that the patient - identified as Amos Waweru Mbora - committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree within the hospital compound using his belt.
"Police officers visited the scene and found the said body of one Amos Waweru Mbora, a resident of Ndugamano in Tetu Sub-County precariously hanging on a tree outside Ward No. 6," a police report reads in part.
Cancer patient's last moments
The 49-year-old man was admitted to the hospital on January 22 2023 having been diagnosed with pneumonia and cancer of the oesophagus.
Preliminary investigations have established that on Saturday, February 4 morning at around 5:20 am, Mbora visited the washroom but never came back to his hospital bed.
The nurse on duty is said to have become suspicious and went to check on the patient and that is when she saw him hanging on a tree near the hospital's perimeter wall.
The body has been removed to the facility's mortuary.
