Police in Manga, Nyamira County, are investigating an incident where a senior police officer was found dead in a cliff on Friday, March 3 evening.

Manga Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Isaac Thiaka was found dead at the base of the cliff - located about 200 metres from Sengera Police Station - which is about 100ft deep.

It is reported that a yet-to-be-identified woman who was collecting firewood around the cliff let out a scream, with officers from the station responding to the distress call.

But upon reaching the scene, they found Thiaka's body at the base of the cliff.

A report filed at the station indicates that the officer's body had a deep cut on the right side of his head, with blood splatter all over the scene.

Events leading to discovery

Preliminary investigations have established that shortly before the deceased was found down the cliff, he was in the company of a fellow police officer - Police Constable Jackson Kamau - who had excused himself to go and lower the national and police Flags at the station.

"After walking for about 50mtrs PC Kamau looked behind only to notice the deceased missing from where he had left him but he heard the screams of the woman who was collecting firewood and he and other officers rushed to that direction," the police report reads in part.

Nyamira County Poice Commander, the CCIO Nyamira, SCI Nyamira and other officers visited the scene as investigations are in top gear.

The body was removed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
