Gang on motorcycles raids Unaitas Murang’a branch, steals cash and firearms from AP officers

Detectives in Murang’a County have launched a manhunt for six gun-toting robbers who stormed the Mununga branch of Unaitas Bank and stole an unspecified amount of money.
Two officers from the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit of the Administration Police who were manning the bank were also attacked and their firearms stolen in the Saturday 9am incident.
“Martin Munguti and Daniel Mwangi while manning the said bank premise two men wearing black private security uniform with reflectors pretending to be hawkers approached them and started wrestling both of them,” says a police report seen by ‘TV47 Digital’.
They were joined by other four thugs - two armed with AK-47 rifles while other two were armed with crude weapons.
“One of the thugs shot on the ground near APC Daniel Mwangi legs but the officer managed to pull out his G3 rifle magazine loaded with 20 ammunicions and throw it to a nearby bush,” adds the report.
“APC Munguti was hit by a metal rod on the head by the thugs prompting him to surrender his firearm G3 A3 S/NO. J61009 loaded with 20 ammos of 7.62mm.
The other thugs stormed the banking hall and stole an unknown amount of money.
“The thugs managed to make away using two awaiting unidentified motorcycles,” adds the police report.
Kigumo MP Joseph Munyoro in a statement said the incident is indicative of worsening security situation in the county.
"This clearly indicates there are major security gaps that need to be addressed urgently. The Ministry of Interior must look into this matter holistically and address it with the seriousness and urgency that it deserves. I will not allow our area to become a lawless area and police must increase their intelligence and prevent this attacks in the future."
About two weeks, a police officer lost an AK47 rifle to thugs in Njora, Kigumo.
"I will also be raising this matter in parliament for clear answers on way forward from the Ministry of Interior," added Munyoro.
