Court allows detention of 2 suspects found with explosives outside Jimi Wanjigi’s house

The court has allowed police to detain two men allegedly arrested with explosives near the home of businessman Jimi Wanjigi for seven days to allow the conclusion of investigations against them.

According to the court ruling on Monday August 12, 2024, there are sufficient reasons to detain the two pending investigations.

Meanwhile, the two suspects through their lawyer asked the court to review its decision, insisting that the government has no reasons to detain them for 7 more days.

According to lawyer Willis Otieno, the explosives were recovered near Wanjigi’s residence, and therefore the two persons are innocent.

“Let the state deal with Wanjigi, not the two. It is police officers who planted the explosives,” he told the court.

Otieno told the court that individuals who allegedly planted the explosives in the car at Wanjigi’s house were captured on CCTV.

“We should not waste the court’s time by involving innocent parties in what they do not know,” Otieno submitted.

In the case, Duncan Odhiambo Otieno and Calvin Ochieng Odongo were arrested in connection to the explosives incident at Wanjigi’s residence last week.
