Court approves auction of Moses Kuria’s properties over loan default

The High Court has given the green light for the auction of properties owned by President William Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor, Moses Kuria.

This follows a legal battle in which Kuria sought to stop the process, citing attempts to repay his loan. However, Justice Aleem Visram ruled that Kuria had failed to meet the terms of the loan agreement taken years ago.

In his decision, Justice Visram emphasized that financial agreements must be honored, noting that the former Cabinet Secretary did not present sufficient evidence to justify stopping the auction. The court ruled that the auction should proceed as scheduled.

Properties to be auctioned
The properties slated for auction include residential apartment blocks located in Ruaka and Juja, both in Kiambu County.

The buildings, known for their modern designs and prime locations, were listed for sale by Garam Investments Ltd., a prominent auctioneering firm.

Sources indicate that the auction is set for April 8, 2025, with the listings already generating interest from potential buyers and investors in the real estate market.

Outstanding debt at the centre
According to documents filed in court, Kuria defaulted on a multi-million shilling loan, prompting the lending institution to initiate recovery through asset disposal.

Despite previous notices and attempts to engage the former CS, the debt remained unsettled.

The auctioneers argue that all procedures were followed and that Kuria had been notified of the impending sale multiple times before the court’s involvement.

Public and political reactions
The ruling has sparked mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a testament to the impartiality of the judiciary, while others see it as a political low point for one of Ruto’s key allies.

Kuria is yet to issue a formal statement in response to the court’s decision
