A 37-year-old woman in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County was found guilty on May 8, 2024, over the murder of her husband three years ago.
The Eldoret High Court Judge, Reuben Nyakundi, delivered the verdict after the prosecution presented compelling circumstantial evidence, beyond reasonable doubt.
According to the court papers, Winnie Maina stabbed her husband to death on August 22, 2022, at their residence in Elgon View estate.
Despite her defense claiming provocation, the judge ruled that the evidence clearly pointed to Winnie intentionally taking her husband’s life.
In his ruling, the judge stated that chances of the husband’s survival were nearly zero after being stabbed in the heart.
She was accused of inflicting fatal injuries on her 33-year old husband, Wycliffe Miriti, who tragically passed away while receiving treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.
Miriti, a Senior Logistics Officer at an international beverage company, was reportedly stabbed after a drinking spree following a night out.
According to the police report, the convict rushed her critically injured husband to the hospital in their family car.
Unfortunately, he succumbed to the three knife wounds upon arrival at MTRH in Eldoret.
The sentencing of the woman is scheduled for June 3.
