The High Court has granted city lawyer Ishmael Nyaribo’s petition accusing the Law Society of Kenya LSK election board of discrimination after he was blocked from vying for the position of LSK male representative to the Judicial Service Commission in the upcoming Law Society elections.
The Court has Subsequently stopped the elections that were slated for February 29 2024.
“The Applicant therefore stands to suffer irreparable loss if the decision of the Respondents stands. The said decision will also create a bad precedent in the conduct of the LSK elections if the said decision is not quashed,” reads court papers.
The Position has attracted four candidates including the incumbent LSK president Erick Theuri, Prof. Micheal Wabwile and Omwanza Ombati and Ishmael Nyaribo.
These individual are seeking to replace Mr.Njeru Macharia who is set to retire in May.
Meanwhile, A case by High Court Advocate Shadrack Wambui seeking to stop the Law Society of Kenya elections will be heard next week on Wednesday, February 14.
The directive was issued on Thursday when the parties appeared before High Court Judge David Majanja.
Wambui moved to the court after the Law Society of Kenya Ad-Hoc Elections Board locked him out of the position of the Nairobi Representative 2024-2026.
