Cristiano Ronaldo is planning to take legal action against Juventus due to unpaid salary issues that stem from his time with the club.
According to an article in the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the current Al-Nassr striker has already engaged with the Turin prosecutor’s office and decided to pursue a case against his former team.
The unpaid salary relates to a period when Juventus, like all football clubs, faced the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
During most of the 2020-21 season, matches were played behind closed doors.
To mitigate these difficulties, Juventus, in 2020 during the initial outbreak, reached an agreement with the players to defer certain payments, and a similar arrangement was made in 2021.
These cost-cutting measures affected players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now seeking legal action against the club for non-payment of an amount exceeding $20 million during that time frame.
Other players at the Italian club, including Paulo Dybala, also had legal disputes related to these “salary maneuvers.”
Dybala reached an agreement with Juventus last year, resulting in him receiving around €3 million.
The so-called “salary manoeuvres” at Juventus were at the center of a scandal that led to the resignation of the former board last year.
Juventus subsequently reached a settlement in late May with Italian sports authorities, agreeing to pay a fine of €718,000 in connection with the salary manoeuvres case.
In return, they chose not to appeal a 10-point deduction related to a separate capital gain case.
Additionally, UEFA banned Juventus from participating in European competitions during the 2023-24 season, despite their qualification, due to the 10-point deduction.

As a result, the Bianconeri will not be competing in the UEFA Conference League this year.
This lawsuit is the latest in a series of challenges for Juventus, coinciding with an impending lawsuit from Leonardo Bonucci and the provisional suspension of Paul Pogba earlier in the same week for a failed doping test revealing elevated levels of testosterone in his system.
