Premier League side Crystal Palace has sacked head coach Roy Hodgson after losing 3-1 to Chelsea at Selhurst Park on Monday, February 12, 2024.
Australian manager Oliver Glasner, who most recently coached Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, has been roped in to replace Hodgson on a two-year deal.
Hodgson marked his 200th match as Palace manager earlier this week, but his team suffered a 3-1 defeat at Selhurst Park against Chelsea.
Since their triumph over Manchester United at Old Trafford in September, the club has only secured three league victories and endured 10 losses in their last 16 top-flight matches.
This is Hodgson’s second stint in charge of Palace; he returned for the final 10 games of last season, initially on a short-term deal replacing Patrick Vieira, before agreeing to continue managing the team for the 2023-24 campaign.
Fans have been vocal in their discontent, displaying banners calling for Hodgson’s dismissal and expressing frustration with the club’s management.
Criticism escalated when Hodgson substituted Eberechi Eze after 64 minutes in their FA Cup third-round defeat against Everton, prompting chants of “you don’t know what you’re doing” from some supporters at Goodison Park.
Additionally, Hodgson faced backlash from fans after bringing on Michael Olise as a substitute at half-time against Brighton, despite the winger struggling with injury and subsequently aggravating a hamstring problem after just 11 minutes on the pitch.

Glasner, aged 49, achieved success with Frankfurt by winning the Europa League in 2022 during his inaugural season in charge, defeating Scottish side Rangers on penalties in the final.
Despite guiding Frankfurt to the Champions League knockout stages last year, the Austrian departed the club at the end of the season with a year remaining on his contract, following a 10-match winless streak in the Bundesliga.
