The cabinet secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage Aisha Jumwa has condemned recent murders of women in Airbnb accommodations in Nairobi.

In a statement released on Thursday, January 18, Jumwa noted that it was wrong for women to be targeted and killed in such a manner.

“We are deeply troubled and saddened by the recent acts of violence against women that have occurred in our country. The tragic incidents, including the recent murders of women in Airbnb accommodations, are a stark reminder of the urgent need to address violence against women in our society,” Jumwa stated.

The Gender CS also noted that it was wrong to victimize and shame the victims, adding that doing so, makes affected families suffer more.

“These senseless acts of violence not only rob individuals of their lives and dignity but also inflict immeasurable pain and suffering on their families and communities,” the CS stated.

She explained the Ministry is committed to working with investigating officers, relevant stakeholders and the community to ensure those involved are arrested and charged in court.

At the same time, Jumwa urged Kenyans to remain calm as police continue with investigations in ensuring justice to the victims.
Meanwhile, she called on individuals who may be having key information to come forward and assist the authorities.

She reiterated the government’s commitment in promoting culture of respect, equality and safety for all Kenyans, regardless of gender.

The Gender CS extended her condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.

This comes after incidences of the murders of 20-year-old Rita Waeni Muendo, a student at JKUAT on Sunday January 14th and 24-year-old Starlet Wahu on January 4th.
