The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum cabinet secretary (CS) Davis Chirchir has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Rose Mkalama as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
In a statement released on Wednesday, December 20, Chirchir confirmed the appointment of Dr. Rose Mkalama who has been acting as the CEO for REREC for the last 3 months.
Dr. Rose Ndanu Mkalama holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Strategic Management, a Master of Business Administration degree in human resource management from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Laws in oil and gas from Strathmore University and a Bachelor’s degree in laws from the University of Nairobi.
She is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Certified Public Secretary (ICPS K) from the Institute of Certified Secretaries of Kenya.
Dr. Mkalama has rich experience having worked in the public sector for 30 years and has held various Senior Positions in different capacities.

She was first employed as the Secretary and Head of Legal Department, in the then Rural Electrification Authority (REA) the predecessor to REREC, a position she held for 10 years and later appointed as General Manager, Corporate Services.

On Enactment of the Energy Act, 2019 that gave REREC an expanded mandate, Dr. Rose Mkalama was appointed to the position of General Manager, Energy Centers and charged with the responsibility of spearheading the transition of Energy Centers from the Ministry of Energy to REREC.
She was later appointed to the position of General Manager, Information, Education and Communication in 2021, a position she held until her appointment as the Acting Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Mkalama is a Certified Utility Management Specialist from the Institute of Public-Private Partnerships and the Water Engineering and Development Centre of Loughborough University, Washington DC.
