Abdi Bare Duale, brother to Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, has been appointed to chair the Kenya Railways Corporation board.

According to a Gazette notice dated February 9, 2024, Bare Duale will serve in the capacity for three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4(a) of the Kenya Railway Corporation Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport appoints Abdi Bare Duale to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Railways Corporation, for three (3) years, with effect from February 9, 2024,” read part of the notice.

This came after President William Ruto revoked his appointment as the chairman of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco) board.

Abdi Duale had served in the board for one years before the appointment was reversed.

Muhumed Abdi Mohamed was selected as his replacement. He will serve in the position for three years.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 3 (a) of the Articles of Association of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, and section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoints Muhumed Abdi Mohamed to be the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited, for three (3) years, with effect from February 9, 2024.”

Duale’s brother previously has served in several other positions within the public service.

In 2017, he was appointed to serve as board member at Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). Former President Uhuru Kenyatta however revoked his appointment a year later.

He was offered another position as the board chair of Kenya Leather Development Council.
