CS Eliud Owalo delivers 400k to Gor Mahia legends

The Cabinet Secretary for ICT, Eliud Owalo, On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, delivered 400,000 Kenyan shillings to the Gor Mahia Legends for their Welfare Sustainability Fund.

In an exclusive conversation with Yours Truly, Owalo, a consistent supporter of Gor Mahia, shared that this financial assistance came from devoted club fans residing in the United States of America.

“The money has been contributed by Gor Mahia fans based in the United States, led by former Gor and Harambee Stars ace midfielder, Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino,” the CS said.

During the presentation, the following K’Ogalo legends were in attendance to receive the funds: Bobby Ogolla, Tobias ‘Jua Kali’ Ocholla, David ‘Kamoga’ Ochieng, Mike Otieno, and Maurice ‘Ole Tunda’ Ouma.

CS Owalo donates one million shillings to Gor Mahia legends

The Gor Mahia Legends Welfare Sustainability Fund was inaugurated by Owalo himself on September 9, 2023, demonstrating his commitment to the well-being of these legendary individuals.

At the ceremony held at Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi, CS Owalo initiated the fund with a generous donation of one million Kenyan shillings.

Additionally, he contributed an extra Sh500,000 as a token of appreciation.

Addressing the gathering during the luncheon, Owalo fondly reminisced about the joy and pride that the Gor Mahia legends had brought to the Green Army during their illustrious playing careers.

He expressed the commitment to ensure that they lead dignified lives in retirement.

“This effort seeks to help the group undertake income-generating projects. The Legends were our pride and joy in their heyday. They should not be forgotten, or neglected, in retirement,” said CS Owalo.

The Gor Legends were led by their chairman, Austin ‘Makamu’ Oduor, who had captained the team during their triumphant Africa Cup Winners Cup campaign in 1987.
