The Cabinet Secretary for ICT Eliud Owalo has mourned the passing of Gor Mahia legend and childhood friend, Ceasar Handa, who passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the age of 59.
Handa, who played for Gor Mahia from 1989 to 1992, passed away at Nairobi Hospital in the early hours of the morning. He had been rushed to the hospital after collapsing at his home in Kileleshwa.
“It is unbelievable and incredibly challenging to accept the sudden passing of my childhood friend, Caesar Handa, also known as Scissor Handa. Our journey together began in the village during our childhood days, and it extended into collaborations on consultancy assignments later in life, particularly in the realm of research,” CS Owalo said.
According to CS Owalo, Thura, as they fondly referred to each other, was a dependable friend and an elder brother, offering guidance and advice as needed throughout the years.
Until his demise, the former midfielder served as the Secretary of the Gor Mahia Legends Welfare Group, which was founded by CS Owalo in September 2023.
“Just two days ago, Caesar and I engaged in a detailed discussion about utilizing drones for last-mile e-commerce deliveries for the Postal Corporation of Kenya. Little did I know that it would be our final interaction,” added the CS.
Handa’s sudden death has shocked and saddened the sports fraternity, especially after his brother Ben Handa disclosed that he was not ailing.
“I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to Ben and the rest of the Handa family, the Gor Mahia Legends led by Austin Oduor, the entire Gor Mahia family, and the Sakwa Kowak clan,” CS Owalo conveyed his condolences.
