CS Justin Muturi criticizes government for inaction on rising abductions

Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Justin Muturi, has criticized the government over its perceived complacency regarding the alarming rise in abductions across the country.

Speaking on Friday January 3, 2025, the CS expressed his dissatisfaction with how the government has handled the situation, calling for immediate and decisive action to address the abductions crisis.

Muturi challenged the government to take full responsibility for its shortcomings, emphasizing that the ongoing abductions reflect broader inefficiencies in governance.

He highlighted the need for a cohesive response to tackle the growing threat, which he said has left many Kenyans living in fear.

“There can never be a situation where the government says it does not know what is happening.

We must own up to our efficiency where they have been pointed out or where they have occurred,” the CS said.

Muturi criticized the government for claiming it has no idea what is going on or who is responsible for the current kidnappings in which six young people vanished over the Christmas break and have not been located.

“We cannot be here and talk about young souls that have been taken away all over and allege we do not know who has taken them. We cannot say we don’t know. We are the government,” Muturi continued.

Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was accused by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah of being responsible for the kidnappings during the funeral service for National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s mother on Friday.

“Gachagua was the orchestrator of abductions so that he could blame President Ruto,” Ichung’wah said while condemning Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya for calling out the government over the abductions.

In his response, the former Deputy President responded by saying;

“The problem with Kenya is the issue of constant lies, and that is probably why I was axed from the government because I stood for the truth,” Gachagua said.
