Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Trade and Industrialization Moses Kuria has issued a peculiar apology over the fuel price scare.
CS Kuria revealed that he decided to retract his sentiments after holding talks with some leaders.
“Dear Kenyans. On Friday 15th September I made some comments indicating that the price of fuel is likely to go up in the coming months owing to global dynamics.
“I have since been advised by people like Dr Boni Khalwale and his master that the statement was incorrect, insensitive and ARROGANT,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
CS Kuria apologizes
In what appeared to be a sarcastic comeback, Kuria stated that he was made to believe the price of fuel would come down in the subsequent months.
“I apologise profusely since to err is human.”
On two occasions in the past one week, the Minister cautioned Kenyans to brace for tougher times until next year as the cost of fuel would rise steadily.
“Global Crude Prices are on an upward trajectory. For planning purposes expect pump prices to go up by Ksh 10 every month till February,” he wrote on September 15.
Climate Change As A Factor
The following day, Kuria elaborated on his point, saying that climate change and global dynamics within the crude oil market were affecting prices.
“I repeat. Petrol will be 260 Ksh by February. And El Nino is coming in 3 weeks that will last till March.
“These are global and climate change driven. Responsible leaders ought to tell the truth to prepare the people. You can throw stones at me all you want,” he added.
Khalwale wants Kuria fired
Irked Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale called for sacking of CS Kuria, his Energy counterpart Davis Chirchir and Ruto’s economic advisor David Ndii.
Khalwale argued that the three leaders were misleading the President and Kenyans instead of offering solutions amid the crisis.
“Lazima watuambie sisi Wakenya what did they mean by they are buying fuel from government to government when things are worse, you sack people so that the cost of fuel can come down,” he told the head of state.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) released the latest prices of fuel on September 15.
Currently, a litre of Super Petrol goes for KSh211.64, Diesel at KSh201 and Kerosene at KSh202.13 respectively in Nairobi.
