Moses Kuria: We Catholics are allowed to sin because we will repent

National NewsNews

Cabinet Secretary for Trade and Industry, Moses Kuria, has once again found himself embroiled in controversy, this time due to his controversial comments about the Catholic religion.

In a video clip circulating on social media, Kuria, who has faced criticism from Kenyans for his remarks on fuel prices, defended his right to speak his mind.

He asserted that Catholics are allowed to commit sins because they have the opportunity to seek forgiveness from God, and he, as a Catholic, is no exception.

“We Catholics are permitted to make mistakes because we also have the chance to repent for our sins,” Kuria stated.

Two weeks prior, Kuria faced backlash for criticizing Kenyans who were complaining about rising fuel prices and suggesting they should dig their own wells to cope with the situation.

“If you spend your entire day complaining about fuel price increases, why don’t you dig your own well? If those who are making noise have wells, I am ready to dig one tomorrow,” he remarked.

Kuria’s perceived arrogance angered many Kenyans, leading to calls for his removal from the Cabinet, with support from leaders across the political spectrum, including Senate Majority Whip Boni Khalwale.

In response to Khalwale’s calls for his dismissal, Moses Kuria urged Kenyans to kindly request that Khalwale be lenient when he strays, as he would repent as a Catholic.

“So, when you see me making mistakes, please ask Khalwale not to be too harsh on me. I am a Catholic, and even if I err, I approach the Priest and confess my sins. Then I am forgiven, and I start anew,” Kuria explained.
