CS Mudavadi responds after MP Peter Salasya was beaten up at Nyayo Stadium

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has condemned the attack on Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya which occurred on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

In a statement on Sunday, Mudavadi termed the incident as disrespectful, and unfortunate.

“What happened to Hon. Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium today is unfortunate. Political intolerance undermines the very foundation of our democracy, which relies on the ability to engage with differing views,” stated Mudavadi.

“We won’t always agree, and that’s okay. But respect, dialogue, and unity must remain non-negotiable. Respect must be given, but it must also be earned. Fellow Kenyans, no one else will build this nation for us. If we let division win, we risk tearing down everything we hope to build.

“A house divided cannot stand. Let’s choose reason over chaos, and maturity over noise. Kenya’s future depends on it,” he added.

Mudavadi’s remarks emerged after Salasya was beaten on Sunday afternoon during Harambee Star’s World Cup qualifier match against Gabon.

The Mumias East MP was attacked and chased out of the Nyayo Stadium, after an altercation with a section of the crowd.

Videos shared on social media show Salasya struggling to break free from an irate crowd as he was pushed out of the stadium.

During the incident, members of the crowd tried grabbing the MP to beat him up as an unidentified person hurled a plastic container at the MP.

The chaos continued up to the stadium’s parking zone as some of his supporters urged him to leave the stadium.

According to eyewitnesses, the MP was thrown out of the stadium for allegedly using abusive language regarding President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
