Through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, the government has adopted a multifaceted approach to spur the development of the creative industry.
Speaking during a meeting with the US Embassy Kenya Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Marc Dillard, and Cultural Attaché, Mr. Drew Giblin, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Kipchumba Murkomen, reiterated the government’s commitment to forging partnerships that will expand the creative sphere.
“We want to attract American entertainment companies to set up operations in the upcoming ambitious project, the Digital Media City at the Konza Technopolis,” stated CS Murkomen.
He further assured that his ministry will work closely with its partners to bridge the skills gap and align with international standards. With the creative economy contributing 5% of Kenya’s GDP, the sector is recognized as having immense potential.
“To bridge the skills gap in the creative industry, we are working with diverse partners to train our creatives, undertake collaborative projects, and expand our audience,” added CS Murkomen.
This initiative follows President Dr. William Ruto’s 2023 visit to Los Angeles-based entertainment company Invention Studios. The visit resulted in five screenwriters signing contracts to develop film and television projects, which are now in the final stages of implementation.
