Kasarani Staduim has been undergoing renovations as part of the preparations for 2025 CHAN competitions jointly hosted with Tanzania and Uganda.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who inspected the progress of the renovations on Monday, November 4, has assured Kenyans that the stadium will be up to standards to even host the 2027 AFCON.
“I’m pleased to confirm that we are on schedule to deliver a modern facility capable of hosting both CHAN and AFCON competitions,” said the CS via X.
Preparations are looming ahead of the 2025 CHAN tournament. The tournament is expected to begin in February next year.
It was recently scheduled that the 60,000 capacity stadium would be completed by November 30.
Talanta City Stadium, which cost roughly $350,000, is another state-of-the-art stadium with a 60,000-capacity whose construction is ongoing.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has put directives in place for the host to uphold the standards of the event expected to attract global attention.
“With the CHAN tournament approaching, it’s essential to implement the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) recommendations to stay on track.”
“The upgrades at Kasarani and Nyayo, together with the construction of Talanta Sports City, prepare the venues to not only meet international standards but also elevate Kenya’s status as a sports hub in Africa,” CS Murkomen added.
This being the first time the competition is being hosted in multiple states, Kenya and Tanzania qualified for the competition despite losing in the qualifier stage.
