CS Murkomen launches new police unit

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Friday, January 24 presided over the launch of the newly-formed National Government Administration Police Unit (NGAPU).

The event, which also saw the launch of the APS Service Delivery Roadmap 2025-2028, also doubled up as the closure of the week-long APS Senior Commanders’ Conference held at Jacaranda Resort in Kwale County.

CS Murkomen commended Administration Police Service (APS) for playing a key role in ensuring safety, and security along Kenya’s borders, and addressing banditry and cattle rustling challenges in the country.

On his part, Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja noted that the launch of NGAPU reinforces the National Police Service (NPS) dedication to excellent service delivery.

NGAPU is tasked with, among other roles, supporting NGAO in ensuring security during high-risk operations, collaborating with other law enforcement agencies, and assisting in conflict management and peace-building.

The event was attended by Government officials, including the Principal Secretary (PS) Internal Security-Dr. Raymond Omollo, PAS Public Service- Ms. Anne Ngetich, Chairperson IPOA- Mr. Ahmed Issack Hassan, NPSC Chairperson- Mr. Eliud Kinuthia, NPSC CEO, Mr. Peter Leley; NPS Accounting Officer- Ms. Bernice Lemedeket, DIG Eliud Lagat (Kenya Police) DIG Gilbert Masengeli (Administration Police Service), DCI, Mr. Mohamed I. Amin, Regional Commissioners and NPS Commanders among others.
