CS Mutua announces 10,000 jobs in Dubai for Kenyans

Labour cabinet secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua has announced that there are over 10,000 jobs available in Dubai’s construction sector for Kenyans to apply.

In a statement on December 16, 2024, Mutua explained that the government of Kenya was committed to helping citizens find employment opportunities abroad.

Mutua shared in a post on X that both skilled and unskilled Kenyans are being sought to join the workforce in the UAE.

Positions include roles such as steel fixers, masons, scaffolders, carpenters, waterproofing technicians, and general workers.

The CS, who is leading the push for overseas employment for Kenyans, also revealed the establishment of recruitment centers countrywide.

“Recruitment officers will be present at Kabete National Polytechnic this Wednesday and Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They will then move to Nyeri National Polytechnic on Friday and Saturday, operating during the same hours. Next Monday and Tuesday, the team will be at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic for the same hours to recruit more Kenyans,” Mutua noted in a statement.

For those selected, Mutua explained that offer letters will be given immediately, and after a three-day medical and processing period, successful applicants will receive their visas. Travel arrangements will follow shortly after visa issuance.

Despite criticism, the government has launched an aggressive campaign to secure foreign jobs for Kenyans, though detractors have voiced concerns about the focus on low-skilled work instead of formal employment.

Mutua assured that the recruitment process has been made affordable, with reduced fees for candidates.

Those chosen will be responsible for their flight tickets, medical expenses, and minor processing costs.

Meanwhile, he advised applicants to attach relevant certificates and documentation, as well as appropriate clothing for practical assessments.

For those without passports, expedited issuance will be available.

Salaries will range from Sh33,000 to Sh60,000, and these will be tax-free. Additionally, accommodation, transport, food, and medical care will be provided at no cost.

Mutua described the opportunity as life-changing and encouraged Kenyans to take part. “Come and try your luck! Mbele iko sawa,” he said.
