Labour Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Alfred Mutua, led a high-profile strategic meeting in Maanzoni, Machakos County, aimed at fostering unity and advancing economic development in Ukambani.
The meeting brought together over 2,000 political leaders, professionals, clergy, and community stakeholders from across the region to deliberate on a shared vision for the future.
The meeting was attended by key leaders, including Kitui South MP Racheal Kaki, Masinga Joshua Mwalyo, Machakos Town MP Caleb Mule, Senator Tabitha Syengo, and a host of MCAs.
Dr. Mutua emphasized the importance of unity in tackling Ukambani’s development challenges. He highlighted the region’s clear priorities, which include the improvement of roads, access to clean water, quality education, electrification, affordable housing, and growth in key sectors.
A major outcome of the meeting was the decision to form a technical team that will lead the process of regional unity and development. Dr. Mutua also announced plans for additional meetings, including one specifically focused on consolidating the region’s voice and aligning the development agenda.
In response to the growing need for youth empowerment, Dr. Mutua committed to organizing a youth-focused meeting aimed at exploring job creation opportunities and addressing the economic needs of young people, who are seen as the region’s future.
During the meeting, Kitui South MP Racheal Kaki urged Ukambani leaders to unite and reject being branded as opposition, emphasizing that such unity is essential for the region to benefit from the government’s development programs.
“Let us not allow ourselves to be sidelined or labeled as opposition. Unity will ensure that Ukambani receives its fair share of development resources,” said MP Kaki.
MP Mwalyo echoed these sentiments, terming the gathering a critical starting point to ensure Ukambani is included in the government’s broader development plans.
