CS Mvurya inspects Kasarani ,confirming stadium renovations are going on

The Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, made an impromptu visit to Kasarani Stadium last evening to assess the stadium’s readiness ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The tournament, originally set for February 2024, was postponed to August 2024 due to venue availability issues.

and CHAN Local Organizing Committee Chairperson, Nicholas Musonye.

Stadium Construction Progress Despite Concerns

Addressing concerns raised on social media about stalled progress, PS Tum reassured the public that renovation work continues at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums under strict monitoring by Ministry officials and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

“As promised, despite the postponement of CHAN 2024 from February to August, work continues at Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, going beyond the initial phases CAF had approved for us to host CHAN.” — PS Tum

Coaching Transition for Harambee Stars

The Ministry of Sports has also confirmed plans to appoint a new head coach for Harambee Stars following the departure of Engin Firat, who failed to lead Kenya to AFCON 2025 qualification.

CS Mvurya held a strategic meeting with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President, Hussein Mohammed and PS Peter Tum.

The discussions focused on Strengthening the team’s technical bench, Selecting a substantive national coach and Preparing the team to compete at top level for CHAN 2024 and AFCON 2027

Kenya is not just participating we are competing for top honors. The new coach will oversee meticulous preparations to ensure Harambee Stars is ready for the challenge.
