“Dating a married person is like driving a government-owned vehicle” – Pastor Sue

On This Friday with Betty, a TV47 show featuring Betty Kyalo, media personality Alex Mwakideu, and renowned pastor and relationship coach Pastor Sue, joined the discussion that explored the realities of dating a married person.

Pastor Sue, widely recognized for her Twa Twa teachings, made a striking comparison—likening it to using a government-owned vehicle.

Borrowed love comes at a cost

Pastor Sue explained that just like a government-owned vehicle, a married person belongs to an institution with set rules and obligations.

“You can take it for a spin, but eventually, you must return it,” she emphasized. She warned that relationships built on deception and secrecy, often end in heartbreak. Affairs, she added, create emotional instability, guilt, and, in many cases, broken families.

The illusion of love in affairs

According to Pastor Sue, many people in extramarital affairs mistake attention and gifts for genuine love.

“The thrill of sneaking around may feel exciting, but the reality is, you are not the primary owner of that relationship,” she said.

She advised young people, especially women, to avoid becoming side partners. These relationships, she warned, often lead to disappointment and emotional distress. She also highlighted the increased risk of STDs and HIV, stressing that cases among people aged 15–35 years have drastically risen.

“The number of HIV patients in this age group is now at 73%—the same places where your partner wants to be unfaithful?” she cautioned.

The consequences of dating a married person

The discussion also covered the dangers of these relationships, including emotional and financial exploitation, public shame, and spiritual consequences.

Pastor Sue pointed out that most married individuals in affairs rarely leave their spouses. She also highlighted the legal and moral implications, warning that relationships built on lies rarely bring long-term happiness.

Choosing self-worth over temporary thrills

Encouraging those in complicated relationships to walk away, Pastor Sue reminded the audience of the importance of self-respect.

“Value yourself enough to wait for a relationship that honors you,” she concluded.

Her message served as a wake-up call, reinforcing the need for wise relationship choices to avoid unnecessary pain.
